About Me

I grew up in Ahmedabad, India where I was the youngest of four in my family. After getting married, I moved to America in 1981 and I have raised two daughters, Nilam and Sejal, here.
My daughters gave me the idea to start a food blog in order to share my recipes with them. In our culture, recipes were never written down, and were just passed down through the generations by word of mouth. Recipes were perfected by taste, texture, and color. Growing up, there were never any measuring cups in our house. Instead we let our hands be the judge of the amount of ingredients. I realize that my daughters have grown up in a fusion of cultures, and these traditional methods of cooking are more difficult to follow. For their sakes, I have begun to measure out ingredients and write down methods to some basic, as well as their favorite, Indian recipes.
I wish for this blog to serve as a memory of the foods they enjoyed throughout their childhood and reflect the blend of cultures they grew up around. By preserving these recipes in a written form, I hope they are able to add to this collection and pass them on to their children one day as I have done for them.
